The seventh season of the American ABC fantasy-drama Once Upon a Time was ordered on May 11, 2017. It will consist of 22 episodes, airing on Fridays, having premiered on October 6, 2017.

This season marks a significant change for the series, as it was announced at the end of the sixth season that the majority of the main cast members would not be returning for season 7. Lana Parrilla, Colin O'Donoghue, and Robert Carlyle will be the only ones remaining. Andrew J. West and Alison Fernandez were announced as new regulars in May 2017. Dania Ramirez and Gabrielle Anwar were announced as additional regulars in July 2017. In August 2017, it was announced that Mekia Cox had been promoted to series regular after initially joining the cast in July as recurring.

The storyline is softly rebooted with a main narrative led by an adult Henry Mills, set several years after last season's events. In February 2018, it was announced the seventh season would serve as the final season of the series.

In the flashbacks, Rapunzel tries to get radishes from Mother Gothel's garden to save her sick husband and to feed their hungry children. Gothel agrees to giving her the food in exchange for trapping Rapunzel in her tower. She succeeds in doing so only to find out her husband remarried to Cecilia and produced another offspring, Ella. Gothel reappears and tempts her into making Cecilia flee with a mushroom from Wonderland. Rapunzel at first disagrees, only to become increasingly jealous of Cecilia and ends up making her flee to Wonderland. Her husband chases her, but eventually gives up and comes back to Rapunzel to make a perfect family. One day, Anastasia falls through thin ice, along with Ella, when the former was trying to help the latter get off of said ice. Rapunzel's husband, Marcus only manages to save Ella and not Anastasia. She then goes on a mission with Weaver to find Henry's storybook for a then unknown reason, while being knowingly tailgated by Ivy and Eloise. Ivy fails to stop Victoria from taking the storybook to Lucy. Victoria shows Lucy her family's life story. She convinces Lucy that happy endings aren't real, since Victoria didn't get hers. She also shows Lucy video footage of Jacinda and Nick kissing which completely shatters Lucy's belief in happy endings, causing her to cry. Victoria uses her tear to use on Anastasia, therefore waking Anastasia but causing Lucy to supposedly collapse unconciously.
